The Big Red Truck

Knowing all of that…this is where you can share your car building, painting, or general knowledge.  You never know…you might learn a few things (or at least learn enough of the lingo to hold a conversation)

Have you ever pulled up to a light, and next to you saw a old 90’s style car or maybe even a 80’s car and heard the loud exhaust but saw a un-painted piece of shit? You turned and looked at the driver as he rev’s his engine, and you think to yourself huh he wants to race! He must be joking, I have a brand new $35,000 Honda with like a billion horsepower says that T.V. commercial. And before you look over to nod a “Lets go” Your watching a smoke show and wondering what state that guy finally slowed down in … Well then I am glad we met!

My name is Mike, the president of PC Peformance. You guessed it Pork Chop Peformance…

Modified PC Performance L.jpg

There have been many cars throw the years that I have worked on, or “Visioned” different ideas for, that lead to more horse power, better looks or just more fun to drive. When I was younger my father who happened to be a car mechanic taught me a lot about the maintenance on cars, which eventually turned into major repair on cars once I got my license. When I was 18 to about 20 years old, you would find me in my driveway working on my camaro, my girl friend at the time camaro, my now brother in laws camaro, my friend at the time camaro and a mess of neighbors cars all weekend long and usually all night long. Back then it seemed like a lot of work, but looking back those where some of the best times I had around cars. I still work on cars today but in some what of a limited fashion, I was in a accident at work, as well as having other limitations this days which leaves me relaying more on the skilled hands of my friends …

There have been many other projects that they have helped me with through the years… Like my Dodge Ram 1500 …

White Dodge Truck

As well as many others that you will here about and be able to see in the picture gallery very soon…

But on to the current project…

1989 I-ROCZ28

Now this project is the “king” of all projects for me. This is my baby, a long time in the making but final is coming to be. This is the first car I bought, I believed I was about 18 or 19 when I bought it. At that point it had everything: paint, performance and the ability to turn heads as it flew down the streets in clouds of smoke.

Irocside.jpg  Irocfn.jpg

Like all things in life, that came to an end…one icy Christmas eve, when I happened to slide under my friends Ford Explorer…

Iroc Accident Iroc Accident

But that wasn’t the end to the old I-ROC, Me and my father re-built it slowly but surely through the years making it run and perform better then it ever did.  New rear end, little engine mods, transmission, Etc. This is a pic of the last project my father and I did to the car. It was changing all the front suspension parts. Sway bar, all the bushings, shock (yes I said shock meaning one), control arms and much much more… My father was very concerned about me hurting my hands again, so he let me hand him the tools as he did his thing… He passed away recently, so now its up to me to finish this car right…as he and I wanted it to be …

My camaro.jpg

So to do it right, would mean going over everything that wasn’t done. The Rear end was new, transmission was new, suspension was almost done, brakes were too. So the next step was to pull the tired old 160000 mile LS98 350 5.7 V8 engine out, and rebuild it…

Just the job for VINNY DA MAN …

With help from Albert, and Skippy as well…

Well now that the engine is pulled out of the car and sent to the machine shop, its time to take the old Camaro to ”F2″, AKA Franks garage…

rust.jpg

Here she sits with her rust and, damaged radiator support awaiting Franks skilled hands. In, banging, cutting, kicking and, welding the support back from the rape job that Manco did after the accident.

These are pics of the reshaped and welded front radiator support.

Now for the long, hard, and hot process of sand blasting the engine compartment. This was done to remove all the paint and rust to ensure a nice surface for the paint to bond to.

This is just min’s before he got bit and, caught the Nile!

Now its time to prep then engine compartment for paint and clear coat.

After prep, and more prep. The paint is finally sprayed with a little clear and well…

Now where finally getting some where… The paint is a Daytona Blue off the new Nissan 350Z. I choose this color because I felt it jumps at you more then the IROC Blue. It has a mix of metal flakes and pearl, those where the two ingredients I wanted the paint to have. Also notice the new flat black and semi gloss black on certain areas. Lets see if I stick to the same color for the body of the car as well.

Now its time to drop the monster back into the car.

Eddie’s valve grinding, in NJ did a great job with the engine.

It’s now a bored and stroked Problem!

383 6.2 liter  Est. 400-450HP! Just motor with the NOS 500-550hp! Yes I said NOS! I still have my nitrous license I figured I should use it.

tpi.jpg

Its bored 30 over, 10:1 compression, has a Crane cam, new hydraulic lifter rollers, beautiful gold crane rocker arms and, springs, ported and polished heads with new valves and, seals. I also went ahead and had the intake manifold custom match ported to the new larger Edlebrock runners. I throw on a bigger BBK 58mm throttle body added new 24lbs per hour fuel injectors, Accel spark plugs with 8.8mm Accel wires, crome Chevy valve covers. Fastchip made a custom computer chip for the engine as well, as much much more…

tpi2.jpg

Well thats it for now. Next the engine will be started and tuned to run wright in the next couple of days then its time to move onto the body and paint before the interior is done…
